TURN ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION OFF IN AIRPODS MAX & PRO

Active Noise Cancellation feature is one of the most significant selling points for AirPods Max and Pro. But, there might be times when you prefer to switch off ANC.

Active Noise Cancelling is a noise-reducing feature designed to improve users’ listening experience when using AirPods or Max earbuds. But, it can’t be denied that many times users may wish to switch the technology off. Notably, it is true when there is any issue regarding battery life, or the users want to avoid outside noise. Thankfully, the process of switching off is easy and can be done in many ways.

While you can pick the standard AirPods for $159 in the USA,  the Max can be picked up for $549 and the Pro for $249. However, AirPods Max and AirPods Pro’s higher prices have also resulted in many gains to the users. They have access to premium and additional features that include active noise canceling. Even though users are paying more for accessing premium features such as ANC, there is nothing that noise-canceling technology always needs to be involved.

In actual terms, Noise cancellation technology helps filter out unwanted and unnecessary noise coming from the background. The objective of noise-cancellation technology is to cancel unwanted sounds; however, its accomplishment method is different from one set of microphones to another. Not to mention, active noise cancellation is a more advanced method, and the buyers having this technology in their headphones need to pay more. But, this is also true that the active noise technology tends to drain more battery than average.

Now, you can choose to turn off ANC whenever you need. To turn it off, you need to tap on “Control Panel” on the connected iPhone or iPhone. Then,  you have to hold and touch the volume slider while wearing either the earbuds Max or AirPods Pro. It will direct you to the other control menu on the iPad or iPhone showing options for Noise Cancellation, Transparency, and Off.

Now, you can choose which noise option you want to enable, which includes choosing  ‘Off’ to altogether disable both Transparency Mode and ANC. Alternatively, you can also access a similar menu by opening the Settings menu on your iPad or iPhone. After that, you will need to search for Bluetooth and then tap on the ‘i’ button appearing next to the AirPods model. When the new menu opens, the users can choose between Transparency, Off, and Noise cancellation.

When To Turn Off Active Noise Cancellation & Cycling Modes

AirPods Max and AirPods Pro come with the option to cycle between Transparency and ANC mode and provide you the ability to switch off the noise cancellation feature. You can enable cycling modes directly on the audio device; however, the process may vary depending on whether you are wearing AirPods Max or AirPods Pro.

If you are using AirPods earbuds, you need to hold and press the force sensor on the stem until it starts giving an alert sound. However, if you use AirPods Max, you need to press the button for noise control. Here, you can switch between Transparency and ANC mode.

There is a bit of difference between Transparency mode and noise-canceling technology. Active noise-canceling technology has been designed with anti-noise to counter the unwanted external noise and give you a more immersive listening experience. On the contrary, Transparency mode has been designed to channel unwanted sound outside through.

It is clear that transparency mode maximizes and improves users’ ability to hear environmental sounds when they are enjoying music. It can be an effective alternative to switching ANC off.  However, the most common reason to disable noise cancellation is to get the convenience to hear the nearby sounds more naturally. Similarly, if battery life is creating an issue for you, then you can disable Transparency and ANC mode on AirPods Max and Pro both.
